Lawns and turf are made of grasses and grown to provide a variety of services. In this publication, the word “lawn” refers to low-maintenance areas typical of residential properties, public parks, school yards or road medians. These areas receive minimal maintenance, usually mowing and irrigation, occasionally fertilization, overseeding or aeration. “Turf” refers to high-maintenance areas typical of golf courses, sportsfields, lawn bowling and prized residential properties. The maintenance activities are numerous and continuous through the year, usually done by trained professionals that follow accepted industry programs.
